UNG SAAC Donates 69 Holiday Meals To Community Helping Place

DAHLONEGA, Georgia – ( – The University of North Georgia Athletic Department has done its best to spread a little holiday cheer through the Dahlonega community after donating 69 bags of food to the Community Helping Place.

“Our SAAC (Student-Athlete Advisory Committee) has done an incredible job in recent years in community outreach programs,” said UNG men’s basketball player Travis Core who serves as the 2013-14 SAAC President. “It is great to see improvement every year with our collective efforts.”

UNG increased its donation by 18 meals from the 2013 total of 51 for the annual initiative which is annually led by the SAAC.  The meals, called “Feast Bags” included all the necessary supplies to make a holiday meal including a two-pound ham, vegetables and dessert.

The SAAC encouraged each of the 12 sports at UNG to contribute at least four bags to the cause with most programs generating well above the projected gift.

“I believe it is a testament to the student-athletes we have here along with the community that surrounds them”

Community Helping Place is the largest outreach program in Lumpkin County, providing basic needs such as food, clothing, and emergency financial assistance to residents of Lumpkin County. These services are made possible by the generous donations of individuals, businesses, churches, and civic groups. In addition CHP relies on approximately 180 volunteers who donate their time to help meet the needs of others in their community.

The Department of Athletics at the University of North Georgia strives to enrich student-athletes with academic knowledge, refined athletic ability, and caring and respect for the surrounding communities.
