Flanigan, Curtis, and Brisson Named PBC All-Conference

North Georgia to open PBC Tournament Thursday morning

AIKEN, SC - The Peach Belt Conference announced the 2008 baseball All-Conference team at a banquet in Aiken, S.C. Wednesday evening, site of the 2008 PBC Tournament. North Georgia's Chris Curtis, Rob Flanigan, and Craig Brisson were named to the team on the eve of the Saints first PBC Tournament game in school history.

Senior Chris Curtis was named to his second PBC All-Conference team in as many years, finishing the regular season with an 8-2 record and an ERA of 3.06. Curtis recorded 73 strikeouts in 100 innings of work and opponents hit just .236 against him.

Rob Flanigan had a career junior season in his first year in the Peach Belt, being named to the All-Conference team after hitting .404 with 18 home runs and 70 runs batted in. He was just one point off the school record in batting average and one long ball shy of the single season home run record. Flanigan had a .731 slugging percentage and scored 68 runs while flashing the leather at first base with a .986 fielding percentage.

Craig Brisson followed his Freshman of the year honors in 2007 with another appearance on the All-Conference team, posting a .368 batting average with seven home runs and 41 runs batted in. Brisson started all 56 games for the Saints in 2008 and had an on base percentage of .453 from the lead-off spot. He led the club with 91 hits and scored 67 runs on the season.

North Georgia will now put the hardware aside and prepare for their first ever appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, facing Francis Marion in the opening round game. The Saints struggled to figure out the Patriots in the regular season, dropping three one-run games on the road during a rain filled series the last weekend in March.

The Saints used that series defeat to ignite the rest of the year, winning 19 of their last 22 after being swept by Francis Marion and look to carry that momentum into the conference tournament. North Georgia finds themselves #29 in the latest Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Poll, and enter the PBC Tournament as the #4 seed.

The 2008 All-Conference team is listed on the following page. The 20-player team was selected by position by the league's 10 head coaches. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players.
