Saints Falter Late, Hand Pfeiffer 10-5 Victory

DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia held a four-run advantage after six innings, but Pfeiffer University rallied with nine runs over the final three innings to come away with a 10-5 victory over the Saints Sunday evening at Bob Stein Stadium.

Pfeiffer jumped out to an early lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Will Davis to score Josh Strickland and give the Falcons a 1-0 lead.

The North Georgia bats were ice cold the first three innings, but the fourth frame saw the Saints rally with a two-out double off the bat of Anders Oster to plate Andre Airich from first base and tie the game 1-1.

In the fifth inning, the Saints would add another two-out RBI, this time from Craig Brisson to bring Jordan Erisman trotting home from third base for a 2-1 advantage.

North Georgia broke the game open in the sixth innings, plating three runs on two hits, and an error to give the Saints a 5-1 lead. Airich and Oster provided the fireworks with RBI hits, while Adam Baker brought home a run with a groundout.

The Falcons came right back in the top of the seventh and used four walks to push across a pair of runs and pull to within 5-3. In the eighth, Pfeiffer had the bases jammed with two outs when a throwing error brought two runs home and tied the game 5-5. Jesse Dunn then stepped to the plate crushed a long fly ball to center field, plating two more runsan and capping a four-run eighth inning to give Pfeiffer a 7-5 lead.

Pfeiffer would add three more runs in the final frame for a 10-5 comeback win.

Casey Smith picked up the win for the Falcons in relief, tossing four innings of three-hit ball, while striking out a pair. Rickett (0-1) was tagged with the loss in 1.1 innings of work.

The Saints return to action Wednesday afternoon, traveling to South Carolina to take on Anderson University with first pitch set for 3:00 p.m.
