DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia closer Jacob Rickett went eight innings in relief on Sunday afternoon to lead the Saints to a 5-3 victory over Augusta State and clinch a playoff spot in next month's PBC Tournament.
Augusta took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and loaded the bases in the second inning on starter Andrew Wallace when Coach Cantrell went to his closer. Rickett retired the side, surrendering no runs in the frame. Rickett went on to throw four consecutive innings of no-hit ball. Augusta was able to pick up an unearned run in the top of the eighth to cut the difference to 4-3.
Rickett would garner 12 strikeouts over the eight innings while allowing only four hits. Rickett improves his record to 5-2 on the season.
The Saints got their offense rolling in the bottom of the third when Alan Fredrickson reached on an Augusta error, followed by a Jordan Erisman (2-4) hit. Fredrickson scored on a Troy Snicker fielders choice. Erisman scored on a Terrell Jones single to knot the score at 2-2.
North Georgia took the lead for good when Snitker scored off a Kenny Bellavance hit in the bottom of the fifth, 3-2.
Erisman led of the Saints' sixth with a triple and later scored on a Derek Hooper (2-3) hit, to add some insurance, 4-2.
After the Jaguars cut the difference to a single run in the eighth inning, the Saints answered when Erisman and Jones teamed up again, with Erisman scoring off the Jones hit and setting up the final 5-3 score.
North Georgia will return to action on Tuesday, April 19 as they host Emory University at Bob Stein Stadium.
