DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia baseball team has high hopes heading into the 2012 season, as head coach Tom Cantrell has released the schedule set for his up and coming team.

North Georgia will look to build on a 34-20 record from a year ago, but finished under .500 in conference at 10-14. The Saints spent most of last season ranked in the top 25, including the top 10 for several weeks. The season ended when North Georgia loss back-to-back games in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament to Augusta State. Cantrell hopes this season his team will take it a step further.

The conference season starts with a bang for North Georgia when they welcome in last year's PBC Tournament Champion, UNC Pembroke, on February 25 and 26. The Saints lost two of three last year playing in North Carolina, which included an extra innings victory in the first game of the series.

The season is highlighted by a series of road games for Cantrell and his squad. The first tough contest for North Georgia comes on March 3, and 4, when the Saints travel to defending PBC Regular Season Conference Champion Francis Marion for a three-game series.  Losing two of three last year at home against the Patriots, the Saints hope to knock off the champions on the road this season.

April 10th, has the Saints traveling to the University of West Florida, who won the NCAA Division II National Championship last season. North Georgia played host to the Argonauts last year and beat them in both games they played, the only team to do so last season. This year the Saints travel to Florida in hopes of doing the same damage they did a year ago.

The season starts February 3, at Valdosta State University, when North Georgia will participate in the Wintersville Kickoff Classic. While there, the Saints will play a total of three games in three days. Their opponents include the host Valdosta State, Saint Leo and Lindenwood.

The following weekend (February 10) North Georgia will partake in the USC Aiken Classic, where they will play in three games. The Saints will face Carson-Newman, Davis & Elkins and USC Aiken in non-conference action.

North Georgia then travels to play West Georgia for a game before playing Northern Kentucky in a three-game set. The series will be the home opener for the Saints and Bob Stein Stadium for the 2012 season.

After six games against UNC Pembroke and Francis Marion, the Saints play a single game against Truett-McConnell, before traveling to Armstrong Atlantic for their third conference series of the season. A doubleheader against Carson-Newman and a home series against Flagler College follow on March 16 and 17.

The month of March ends with trips to Georgia Southwestern, Anderson and Georgia College. The Saints swept Georgia Southwestern last year, outscoring the Hurricanes 11-4. North Georgia however, was also swept by Georgia College last year at home.

April starts with four home games, one against Anderson, and three against conference rival Columbus State. The Saints lost two of three last season at Columbus State.

North Georgia will travel to Division I powerhouse Florida State on April 18. The game is sandwiched between conference series' against Montevallo and Augusta State. Augusta is responsible for ending the Saints' season in 2011, as they defeated North Georgia twice to eliminate them from the PBC Tournament.

The season ends with a home series against conference foe Lander University on April 29 and 30. The regular season officially ends on May 1, when North Georgia plays host to Emory University in the season finale.

With several players returning for coach Cantrell, the Saints baseball team has high expectations this season. Contention for the conference championship and a trip to the NCAA Tournament will have North Georgia back on track where they belong.
