DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The University of North Georgia baseball team's season has come to a premature end as the Saints' Peach Belt Conference doubleheader against Georgia College, originally scheduled for Saturday afternoon, has been cancelled due to rain that is expected to continue all day.
North Georgia ends the season 18-29 overall with a 9-19 record in the PBC, but will lose just three players to graduation. The Saints sent Kenny Bellavance, Derek Hooper and Brett Wright out in fine fashion last night by claiming what ended up being their season-finale 6-3 over the Bobcats of Georgia College at Bob Stein Stadium.
The Saints claimed series over Augusta State University, Carson-Newman College, Anderson University and Armstrong Atlantic State University while also claiming a game over then fifth-ranked Lander University. Head coach Tom Cantrell also picked up his 500th win at the helm of the program, his 677th as a collegiate head coach, in an 11-9 win over King College on February 9.
