Men's Golf in 3rd Place at Piedmont Fall Invitational
CLARKESVILLE, GA – The North Georgia men's golf
team finds themselves alone in third place following Monday's
opening round of the 5th Annual Piedmont College Fall Invitational
at The Orchard Golf and Country Club.
The Saints fired an opening round 304 to sit in third place, just one shot behind second place Milligan College, and 12 strokes off the pace of Maryville College who will enter Tuesday's final round with a commanding lead. Maryville's round of 292 has them 11 shots clear of the field.
Bryson Womack paced the Saints on the opening day of the classic, playing in the second to last group and recording a 3-over-par 75, his lowest round of the 2010 fall season. Freshman Grant Rish and senior Brian Mallory both notched rounds of 76, putting them 4-over-par for the day.
Howard Duffin grinded out a tough back nine that saw the junior go 4-over-par, but the Wingmore, England, native managed a 77 for the opening round, while freshman Dillon Bowers rounded out the team with a 7-over-par 79, putting all five North Georgia golfers under 80 for just the second time in program history.
The Saints will go back to work Tuesday morning in the second and final round of the 5th Annual Piedmont College Fall Invitational at The Orchard Golf and Country Club. A shotgun start is set for 9:00 a.m. as North Georgia will look to close the gap on Maryville's lead and take home the hardware.
