CARROLTON, Ga. – The North Georgia College & State University men's golf team started off the final tournament of their fall slate with a strong performance despite battling high winds and low temperatures. The Saints combined to post a 608 that currently has them third through the first two rounds of the Matt Dyas Invitational Monday.
Tournament host the University of West Georgia leads the field with a 605, just two strokes ahead of fellow Peach Belt Conference school Clayton State University.
Sophomore Aaron George is currently the individual leader for the tournament with a 145. He carded a par 72 in the opening round and then backed that up with a one-over 73 in the second round.
Freshman Zach Caldwell finished the opening day in a tie for 10th overall with a four-over par 76 in the day's first round to go along with a 77 in the second round. Will McFarlin started the day with an 81 but then bounced back with a solid 73 in the second round to post a 154 for the first day which has him tied for 12th.
Grant Rish carded identical 79's in the two opening rounds to sit in a tie for 24th with a 158 while Will Brackett rounded out the Saints' scoring five with a 159. Brackett currently sits 26th overall.
Derek Watson is playing as an individual in the tournament and posted a first round score of 78 and followed that up with an 83, leaving him tied for 30th heading into Tuesday's final round.
The Saints will resume play tomorrow morning, Tuesday, Oct. 30 in the final round of the touranment.
