Men's Golf Finishes Second in Tri-Match, Host Make-A-Wish Child
DAHLONEGA, Ga. - The University of North Georgia men's golf team hosted Clayton State University and the University of West Georgia in a three-team match at Achasta Golf Club Friday afternoon. The Lakers from Clayton State took home both the team and individual crowns with North Georgia finishing second in the tri-match.
Prior to the match, which also included women's teams from North Georgia and West Georgia, the Saints spent time with Make-A-Wish child Robert from Flowery Branch. Robert was able to put his putt-putt skills on display on the putting green and even shared some words with two former Make-A-Wish recipients on the UNG women's team – Bridget Sandy and LeeAnn Noble. Both Sandy and Noble received similar wishes to Robert as all three went to Disney World as part of their wishes.
With a huge smile on his face, Robert sank several putts as the honorary starter for the match and watched as the teams warmed up and cheered them on as they commenced the match.
On the links, Alex Vetnar from Clayton State led the Lakers with a low round of 70 to win individual honors while Clayton State finished seven strokes ahead of the Saints. Clayton State's Tyson Beaupre also finished second as the scoring four all finished inside the top-10.
For the Saints, Aaron George, Will Brackett and Grant Rish led the way with matching 75's, which tied them with Fredrik Lindblom from Clatyon State for fifth in the field. Will McFarlin rounded out the scoring four for North Georgia with a 76.
The Saints will close out their season at the Peach Belt Conference Championship at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga. beginning next Friday, Apr. 19.
