Men's Golf Ninth Following First Two Rounds of PBC Championship
PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The University of North Georgia men's golf team opened up the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted by Columbus State University at Callaway Gardens with a strong opening two rounds. The Saints currently sit ninth of the 11 men's teams in the field with a combined stroke count of 606.
The nationally-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken leads the field following the first two rounds with a combined stroke count of 582 as Matt Atkins and J.P. Solis sit in a tie for second with matching 143's. Columbus State and Georgia Southwestern University are seven strokes back and tied for second.
Columbus' Bryan Lichimo leads the field with a 142 to sit one stroke ahead of Atkins and Solis.
North Georgia is currently led by freshman Zach Caldwell who is tied for 10th. Caldwell opened the tournament with a 76 in the first round but bounced back in the day's second with a 70 for a 146.
Sophomore Aaron George is currently second on the team and tied for 17th in the field as he carded a 72 in the first round. He backed that up with a 77 in the day's second round.
Will McFarlin and Grant Rish rounded out the scoring four for the Saints. McFarlin carded an opening round 79, but bounced back with a 76 for a 155 while Rish opened the tournament with an 82 and 74 for a 156.
The field will wrap up the tournament tomorrow morning with the third round of the tournament starting at 8:00 a.m.
