PINE MOUNTAIN, Ga. - The University of North Georgia men's golf team held firm in ninth at the 2013 Peach Belt Conference Championships hosted by Columbus State University at Callaway Gardens as the Saints carded a three-round score 915.
The nationally-ranked University of South Carolina Aiken Pacers claimed both the team and individual crowns in the 11-team field. USC Aiken as a team combined to card a three-round 873, two strokes ahead of second-place Columbus State and three strokes ahead of Armstrong Atlantic State University in third.
Matt Atkins wrapped up the tournament with a third-round 69 to claim individualist honors by four strokes over the Cougars' Bryan Lichimo. Atkins recorded a 78 in the opening round followed by a 65 and a 69 in the second and third rounds while Lichimo had a 73 in the opening round followed by a 69 in the second and a 74 in the final round.
Zach Caldwell wrapped up a very respectable freshman campaign in a tie for 17th overall with a three-round score of 222. He opened and finished the tournament with matching 76's with a second-round 70 sandwiched in between.
Will McFarlin finished second on the team with a 230 as he continued to improve in all three rounds. He opened the tournament with a 79 then shaved off three strokes to finish the first day with a 76. McFarlin wrapped up the tournament with a third-round 75.
Aaron George struggled on Sunday as he fell into a tie for 37th with an 82 after carding a 72 in the opening round and a 77 in the second. Grant Rish rounded out the scoring quartet for the Saints with a three-round 240.
