Pat Parris Releases 2011 Men's Soccer Schedule
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia head men's soccer coach Pat Parris released the team's 2011 schedule on Tuesday afternoon, a slate that features 16 regular season games and pair of exhibition contests.
The Saints will open the year with two exhibition games this fall, traveling to Southern Wesleyan to start the season, before welcoming SCAD to town for North Georgia's final tune-up of the preseason.
A southern swing will kick off the regular season, as the Saints will travel to Nova Southeastern on September 2, before making their way to Barry University on September 4, to take on the Buccaneers.
North Georgia will play their home opener on September 7, against the University of Tampa, as one of just three home non-conference games on the season. Alabama-Huntsville and Young Harris will also make their way to Dahlonega to battle the Saints in non-conference tilts.
The Peach Belt Conference schedule opens on September 11, when the Saints hit the road to take on the Pacers of USC Aiken. The league schedule will close in style, as North Georgia will play back-to-back home games against Georgia Southwestern and Lander University, before traveling to Francis Marion to cap the regular season.
North Georgia is coming off a season that saw them race out to an unbeaten mark at 4-0-3 through their first seven games, but the Saints ended the year with just one victory in their final five games, including a 2-0 loss to Flagler in the opening round of the PBC Tournament.
Head coach Pat Parris has accumulated an overall record of 29-38-7 in his first four years at the helm of the Saints, including his first winning season in 2010 that featured an overall mark of 8-6-4.
The offense should see little drop off, as six of the team's top eight goal scorers from last year will return for the Saints this fall, including Gray Phelps who tallied a team-leading five goals in 2010. Two-time Peach Belt All-Conference performer Rade Tanaskovic returns for his senior season in goal and will look to guide North Georgia back to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament after posting six shutouts a year ago.
The sports communications office will cover every minute of the 2011 season with live video broadcasts and live in-game statistics of the team's nine home games. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for the Peach Belt Conference's preseason coaches poll, the league's Preseason All-Conference Team and the Preseason NSCAA Top 25 Poll.
