Last Meeting vs. Georgia Southwestern: Hurricanes won 3-0 last season
It goes without saying the struggles of GSW in the Peach Belt in recent years. They have not won a conference game yet this season and only won one all of last year. Guess who it was against? That's right, the Saints. For whatever reason, North Georgia did not come ready to play in that game played in Americus and fell 3-0. This season has the making of an interesting game to say the least, with both teams coming in feeling quite differently about themselves.
While Southwestern comes into this game feeling good about their recent play, the Saints have to wonder which team will show up on Wednesday and to what kind of production they will give. The 3-0 loss on Saturday to Mars Hill is not quite as bad as it looks on paper. Coach Parris tried multiple lineups and formations and had plenty of players playing out of position; nonetheless it was still an unfortunate loss after showing some recent promise against Young Harris. GSW on the other hand recently played a tough Lander squad to a 1-1 draw, the team North Georgia will face on Saturday. This coming after a 4-3 defeat to Clayton State, a moral victory if you may. For what it's worth, the Saints lost to Clayton 4-0 earlier this season.
The Saints will be looking to get off the snide having lost three straight conference games and four of six overall. The Hurricanes will be looking to keep building on their recent success. North Georgia is one win away from securing a bid to the PBC Tournament, while Southwestern needs some help to get in. The Hurricanes will need to win two more games to give themselves an opportunity to participate in the postseason tournament.
North Georgia has to be eager to get the sour taste of last season's loss to GSW out of their mouth, along with their recent struggles. Take the history out of this match, the Saints best suit up, because this hungry Southwestern squad is going to come into Dahlonega with increasing confidence and will be looking to kick North Georgia while they are down.
