Men’s Tennis Moves up Two Spots to 23rd in Preseason National Poll
SKILLMAN, N.J. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released the 2013 NCAA Division II Campbell/ITA Preseason rankings Friday evening and the North Georgia College & State University men's tennis team will commence the upcoming campaign ranked 23rd in the nation.
The Peach Belt Conference is well represented in both the national and region polls as nine conference schools made the national poll led by Armstrong Atlantic State University atop the poll. Similarly, Wingate was the only non-PBC school to crack the top-10 in the Southeast Region preseason poll.
No. 7 Columbus State University is second in the region with No. 8 Lander University third, No. 9 Augusta State University fourth and 16th-ranked Georgia College fifth. Francis Marion is currently 20th nationally and sixth in the region with Flagler 27th nationally, ninth regionally and the University of South Carolina Aiken rounding out the Peach Belt schools in 35th nationally and 10th in the Southeast Region.
Last season, North Georgia's men ended the season 25th in the nation with a 14-9 record after falling to the then eighth-ranked Columbus State Cougars in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. It was the first time the team had advanced to the national tournament.
The Saint men will open the 2013 campaign on Sunday, Feb. 3 against Lenoir-Rhyne University. North Georgia will compete in 18 matches including eight home contests and a full PBC slate.
