MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The North Georgia College & State University mixed rifle team competed this weekend in the season's second Southeastern Air Rifle Conference tournament hosted by Georgia Military College.
In league air rifle competition, the Saints finished third just behind nationally-ranked teams from North Carolina State University and The Citadel. The Saints were only 19 points back of the Bulldogs and finished well ahead of Georgia Military and Clemson.
In NCAA air rifle competition, the top three teams finished in the same order as in the league competition, with North Georgia only 15 points behind the Citadel men's team but ahead of the Citadel women's squad.
In NCAA smallbore competition, the team standings mirrored the air rifle competition, with the Saints led by Bragg, Howell, freshman Chris Tam, and Duncan.
Individually, Bragg was on a roll this weekend as she broke three school records including air rifle with a 582/600 to finish second overall. She also set the school record in smallbore (566/600) on her way to a strong third place finish and completed the hat trick with a new combined event school record, breaking her own record set earlier this season.
Several members of the team had performances that were personal bests, or nearly so, as the team continues to work hard and improve.
The Saints return to action at home this coming weekend on Saturday, October 27th at 8:00 a.m. when they host nationally-ranked Columbus State at the Colonel Hamilton range on the NGCSU campus.
