North Georgia sits 6th in NCAA South Atlantic Region Poll
DAHLONEGA, GA - The North Georgia College & State University softball team find themselves ranked 12th in the nation after a breakthrough run at the Peach Belt Conference Tournament where they came up a run short in the championship game.
North Georgia competed in their first-ever Peach Belt Conference Tournament last weekend and got respect from everyone around the league as the Saints knocked off the 4th-ranked Braves of UNC Pembroke in the second round and 18th-ranked Francis Marion University in the semi-finals before falling in the second championship game in nine innings to the now 8th-ranked Bobcats of Georgia College & State University.
UNC Pembroke fell out of the latest poll and Francis Marion stayed at #18 in all of Division II after the tournament. In the poll that really counts, North Georgia finds themselves as the number #6 team in the NCAA Softball South Atlantic Region Poll announced Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA. This ranking will eventually determine the seedings at the NCAA South Atlantic Regional that will be played May 7-12 at location that is yet to be determined. The Saints still await word on an at-large bid which will be announced in the near future.
In their third season of competing at the NCAA Division II level, The Saints finished the regular season and conference tournament with a record of 35-13 and 10-8 in Peach Belt Conference play.
