Lauren Dykes Named PBC Player of the Week

AUGUSTA, GA – North Georgia freshman standout Lauren Dykes has been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week announced this afternoon from the league office, the first award Dykes has received since starting her collegiate career.

Lauren Dykes hit .692 last week as the freshman continued her torrid pace at the plate with nine hits, five runs batted in, and six runs scored. The Dallas, Ga., native was a perfect 3-for-3 in the opening game of a doubleheader against West Georgia, recording a double, three runs batted in, and two runs scored, while recording a hit in game two with a stolen base.

She then exploded in a doubleheader sweep over Georgia Southwestern, notching three hits in the first game with two runs scored, including a home run and a pair of runs batted in, while in the finale she had two more hits and two runs scored.

She had a slugging percentage of 1.000 in four games, and is currently hitting .396 on the year with four home runs, 21 runs batted in, and 31 runs scored. She is 9-for-11 in stolen base attempts, while the right-fielder has an on-base percentage of .419.

With 31 straight victories to open the season, North Georgia currently has the second longest winning streak in Peach Belt Conference history, and the 10th longest in NCAA Division II history. The Saints are the only undefeated team remaining at the NCAA Division I, Division II, or Division III level.

The No. 1 Saints will put their unbeaten mark on the line tomorrow afternoon as North Georgia travels to play No. 6 Alabama-Huntsville in a much-anticipated match-up of top 10 teams in the country. North Georgia is currently 5-0 against teams in the national top 10, and 6-0 against squads ranked in the top 25.
