DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia outfielder Ansley Williams has been selected as the Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week announced on Tuesday afternoon from the league office.
Williams picks up her first-ever conference honor just 19 games into her freshman campaign. On the heels of earning Moe's Southwest Grill North Georgia Athlete of the Week honors, Williams earns weekly honors from the PBC, the first from any North Georgia softball player this season after last year's team earned seven weekly awards throughout the course of the season.
In four games last weekend at the Limestone Saints Invitational, Williams hit .583 with a double, a triple, two home runs, and six runs scored. She opened the two-day tournament with a 1-for-3 performance against 20th-ranked California (pa.), leading off the game with her second home run of the season.
She then recorded two hits against the University of Charleston, including a triple and a home run as the freshman scored two more runs.
Two hits in each of the last two games of the weekend capped a seven-hit performance as the Cartersville, Ga., native had a slugging percentage of 1.333 and an on base percentage of .643 in four games.
Williams and the Saints return to action next weekend, traveling to the Mid South Classic for six games in three days. The Saints will open the weekend with last year's NCAA Southeast Super Regional participant and 17th-ranked Lenoir-Rhyne as the Saints oppose their 5th ranked team of the 2011 season.
