DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia softball team hosted its sixth annual Cancer Awareness Day on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, taking on Georgia College & University as a capacity crowd was on hand for a doubleheader between the in-state rivals.
The annual event at Haines & Carolyn Hill Stadium raised $975.23, which was donated to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure Foundation. The softball program would like to thank Georgia College for taking part in the event, and Campus Connection, the University Bookstore, for supporting the doubleheader.
"We are very appreciative to all of those who participated in this event," head coach Mike Davenport said. "The North Georgia Softball program wants to do our part in helping find a cure for cancer by raising awareness within our community. With the support from the Campus Connection Bookstore we will, once again, make a contribution to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation."
Between games, North Georgia and Georgia College recognized cancer survivors and honored those who have passed from the deadly disease.
North Georgia continued their stretch of dominance in 2011, capturing the Peach Belt Conference regular season and tournament championships for third a straight season, and advancing to the NCAA Division II College World Series in Salem Virginia. The Saints Set a school record for wins in a season with 53, and have posted a record 154-19 over the last three years.
