KISSIMMEE, FL – The Saints finished their Disney weekend with a 2-1 win over Saint Leo at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.
North Georgia (14-3) got another great outing from senior pitcher Jessica Coan, who picked up her ninth win on the season. Coan threw another complete game, allowing just one earned run and six hits. She also struck out 11 Saint Leo batters.
The No. 2-ranked Saints got a solo home run from Tiffanie Burns in the bottom of the 4th inning to give North Georgia a 2-1 lead they would never relinquish. Burns now has three home runs on the season.
Pilar Harden led the way offensively, going 2-for-4 with a clutch RBI double. Harden who has recently been moved to the leadoff spot, is now batting .340 on the season.
Playing very stiff competition while taking part in this year's ESPN-Disney Citrus Classic, the Saints went 3-2, but more importantly won their final three games of the weekend. They managed a split with Saint Leo and No. 3 West Texas A&M, while spanking Kentucky State in their only meeting
The Saints crushed eight hits, but also left 10 runners on base, something they must improve on as they begin to reach a tough stretch of the season.
Saint Leo (11-8) was led by Ali Lamb offensively, who picked up the only RBI for the Lions.
In a weekend that saw the Saints play in three extra-inning games, North Georgia's youth was tested and will now be in a much better position the rest of the difficult 2012 season.
North Georgia returns to action next weekend, when they travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to take part in the 2012 Mid-South Classic.
The Saints will play a total of five games, with the action starting Friday night at 6:00 PM when the play Carson-Newman.
