AUGUSTA, GA – Tiffanie Burns has earned PBC Freshman of the Week honors after leading the Saints to a 7-1 record over the past week, as announced by the conference office yesterday evening.
Burns has been stellar as a freshman this season for head coach Mike Davenport, playing in 29 of the team's 30 games at shortstop.
This past week North Georgia swept Bellarmine on Wednesday, West Georgia on Thursday and completed the two-game weekend sweep of No. 1-ranked Alabama-Huntsville this weekend. The Saints also played the University of Charleston twice, splitting with the Golden Eagles.
The native of Sylvania, Georgia, hit .300 in the eight games, mostly from the 8-hole in the lineup. Burns also led the team in RBI's with 12 as she came through in the clutch multiple times. She had two RBI's in each win over the Chargers.
She hit three home runs, two of them three-run bombs, and finished the week with a .750 slugging percentage. Burns also held a .440 on-base percentage.
Burns now is fifth in the Peach Belt Conference in home runs (6), eighth in RBI's (24) and 10th in slugging percentage (.616).
Burns has also been very consistent in the field for the Saints, currently holding a .953 fielding percentage.
North Georgia will need Tiffanie Burns to come through again this week as they travel to both Flagler and Armstrong to open PBC play.
Burns is the third North Georgia player to win a weekly award this season, as Jessica Coan has won PBC Pitcher of the Week on two separate occasions.
