DAHLONEGA, GA – After splitting the first two conference doubleheaders of the season against Flagler and Armstrong last week, the North Georgia softball team slid down two spots to No. 3 in the country in the latest NFCA Division II poll released on Wednesday afternoon.
Angelo State became the third team in as many weeks to top the weekly poll. The Rambelles received 11 of the 16 first-place votes for the first time since March 23 of last season.
Valdosta jumped to second receiving two first-place votes, while North Georgia, Indianapolis and Winona State rounded out the top five.
North Georgia opened Peach Belt Conference play with a come-from-behind victory in game one of the Flagler series before falling in game two. Later in the week the Saints traveled to Savannah, Georgia, where they once again split the conference double header.
The NFCA Division II top 25 poll is voted on by 16 NCAA Division II head coaches, two representing each of the eight NCAA regions.
North Georgia returns to the diamond on March 23, when they travel to Americus, Georgia, to take on Peach Belt Conference foe Georgia Southwestern. The series is the third of four straight conference road doubleheaders the Saints will play in search of their fourth straight PBC championship.
