Softball Team Builds Ramps with Habitat for Humanity

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – One of the biggest parts of being an NCAA Division II student-athlete is realizing there is a bigger picture and knowing that there is more to life outside of the sport that person plays. At North Georgia College & State University, athletic teams help their student-athletes see that bigger picture by participating in community service projects throughout the school year.

Three weeks ago, the Saints softball team did their part in the Lumpkin County community by helping out with Habitat for Humanity on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The squad split up into two groups and took on separate projects, each helping a family with members who are disabled and do not have the means to make their homes handicap accessible.

At both sites, the teams tore down the homes' old porches before installing new ones that included wheel chair ramps in place of stairs. The projects took around six hours to complete.
