McMillan, Merritt and Minger Named to NFCA All-Region Teams
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) named their All-Region teams on Friday and the University of North Georgia’s Kim McMillan, Taylor Merritt and Kayla Minger were all named to the teams.
McMillan and Merritt were first team All-Region representatives while Minger was a second team representative.
McMillan has come in and provided immediate fire power for the Saints' offense as well as offering solid defense at multiple positions as she has started all 49 games for North Georgia. On offense, McMillan is currently in the top-10 in the PBC in 10 different offensive categories including leading the conference with 28 extra base hits, 114 total bases and is tied for tops in the conference with 15 doubles. For the season, McMillan has also collected 60 hits, 43 runs, 42 runs batted in and 13 home runs. She has recorded multiple hits in a game 13 times this season including five games with three hits. Defensively, she has played three different positions this season starting the season in left field while also playing some at first base before moving behind the plate late in the season. McMillan has recorded 154 putouts and 21 assists with a fielding percentage of .978 and is a two-time PBC Player of the Week (Mar. 18 & Mar. 25).
Merritt is currently in the top-10 in the conference in four offensive categories including tied for seventh in sacrifice hits, seventh in batting average, sixth in runs scored and seventh in on-base percentage. Merritt, who has played in 43 games, is currently second on the team with a .369 batting average and is second with 45 hits while her 36 runs scored has her second on the squad in the category. For the season, she boasts an on-base percentage of .446 and slugs .426. She has collected multiple hits in a game 13 times this season and has scored two or more runs in 10 games. She is third on the team with eight stolen bases and has 17 runs batted in.
In 49 games of action this season, Minger currently leads the conference with 46 runs batted in and is in the top-15 in the league in three other offensive categories. The Saints' starting right fielder is 12th in the PBC with a .429 on-base percentage, 12th with a .563 slugging percentage and 14th with a .349 batting average. She has 44 hits, including 10 doubles, a triple and five home runs, and has crossed the plate 15 times this season.
NFCA member coaches in each of the eight regions selected this year’s All-Region teams and all honorees now become eligible for selection to one of three NFCA Division II All-American squads to be announced next week.
