Dickie and Minger Receive PBC All-Academic Honors
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of North Georgia softball team put Melissa Dickie and Kayla Minger on the Peach Belt Conference All-Academic Team as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
A sophomore from Buford, Ga., Dickie, the 2012 PBC Freshman of the Year and Southeast Region Pitcher of the Year, has appeared in 18 games this season for North Georgia, including making 13 starts in the circle while posting an 11-5 record. Dickie has pitched 104.1 innings, including 12 complete games, while boasting a 2.21 ERA. She currently sits 12th in the league in ERA. She has recorded 49 strikeouts on the season compared to 40 walks while giving up just 91 hits with opponents batting .233 against her. She was named a 2011-12 PBC Bronze Level Scholar Athlete. She currently has a 3.57 grade point average as an Early Childhood Education major.
A senior from Port St. Joe, Fla., Minger, a 2013 PBC Preseason All-Conference selection, has played all 48 games this season for the Saints in right field. In 119 at bats, she boasts a .353 batting average, third on the team, with a .436 on-base percentage and .580 slugging percentage. On the season, Minger has recorded 42 hits including 10 doubles, five home runs and a PBC-leading 45 runs batted in… She has also scored 15 runs herself. She was named a 2011-12 PBC Presidential Scholar Athlete, and she has a 3.38 GPA as a Nursing major.
The team is part of a season-long program recognizing the outstanding accomplishments of PBC student-athletes in the classroom as well as on the field.
To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution. The Peach Belt Conference Sports Information Directors oversee and select the teams.
