The Lady Saints Fall 62-52 at Delta State University

CLEVELAND, MS – North Georgia continued their Mississippi road trip Saturday evening, taking on powerhouse Delta State University and falling 62-52 in the final game of the Margaret Wade Classic at Walter Sillers Coliseum.

The Lady Saints opened the contest in complete control has Brooke Baker caught fire early with a pair of three-pointers and a mid range jumper to give North Georgia a 10-4 lead at the 16:46 mark. The Lady Saints led by as many as nine points at two different occasions in the first half, but DSU came back and cut the lead to six points at the intermission.

North Georgia started the second period much like the first, as the Lady Saints went on an 11-6 run capped by a jumper from Whitney Randolph to make it 36-25 with 15:03 remaining in the contest.

The Lady Statesmen would respond with a run of their own however, as Veronica Walker put a lid on a 12-0 run with a running layup to give Delta their first lead of the game at 37-36.

The Lady Saints took the lead right back at 40-37 on a Syretha Marble layup, but DSU’s Kirsten McBride knocked down a pair of free throws at the 8:09 mark to give the Lady Statesmen the lead for good at 42-40. Randoph pulled North Georgia to within a point with 3:09 remaining, but Delta State pulled away down the stretch to come away with the 10-point victory.

Marble led all scorers in the contest with 19 points, while Randolph added 15 and Baker chipped in 13. The Lady Saints shot 44 percent (19-43) from the field, and were just 61 percent (8-13) from the free throw line.

North Georgia (1-1) returns to action at home, hosting Mars Hill College on Monday, November 24, at 5:30 p.m.
