& State University led by 17 points at halftime, but Lander
University came back in the second half to pull out a 73-69 victory
over the Lady Saints on senior day in Memorial Hall in Peach Belt
The Lady Saints fall to 8-19 overall, and 5-15 in the PBC, while Lander improves to 17-9 overall and 12-7 in the league.
Syretha Marble scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Saints, while Whitney Randolph added 14 points and Sarah Stinson had eight points and 12 rebounds.
Nardia Robbins and Shannon McKever scored 18 and 17 points respectively for Lander, while Ciara Lyons and Jasmine Judge added 11 points each. McKever led the team in rebounds with seven, while Robbins added five steals.
North Georgia led by 15 points at 52-37 as late as 10:15 remaining in the game when the Lady Bearcats to started to chip away and found themselves down by just four points at 56-52 with 7:15 left on a three-pointer by Judge.
Lander would take their first lead of the game on a pair of foul shots from McKever with 2:51 remaining, and extend their advantage to as many as six points in the final minute before coming away with the 73-69 road victory.
North Georgia shot 51 percent from the field, and 36.4 percent from behind the arc, while the Lady Bearcats were 47.4 percent from the floor, and 33.3 percent from long range.
The Lady Saints committed 16 second-half turnovers and 26 for the game, while Lander turned the ball over 19 times.
The Lady Bearcats shot 69.6 percent (16-23) from the charity stripe, while North Georgia was nearly perfect at 93.8 percent (15-16) and held a 31-29 rebounding advantage.
The Lady Saints return to action at the 2009 Peach Belt Conference Tournament, and will wait for seedings to be announced over the weekend.
