Lady Saints Fall to North Alabama in X-Trem Classic

DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia women's basketball dropped their first contest of the season falling 60-51 to North Alabama at Memorial Hall in the final game of the 2011 X-Trem Tip-Off Classic.

The Lions (2-1) won their second contest in as many nights and were the only team to win both of their games in the first annual event.

The Lady Saints (1-1) started the game on a 4-0 run and held North Alabama scoreless for nearly the first four and a half minutes before the Lions caught fire and went on a12-5 run of their own to grab an early 12-9 lead.

The two teams played back and forth trading baskets for the remainder of the half until the Lions closed out the first half on a 5-0 run in the final minute to hold a slim 28-27 lead over the Saints at the half.

The Lions and the Lady Saints played each other tough in the first half with the largest lead for either team being six points.

Sophomore Jaymee Carnes had another monster first half scoring 12 of the team's 27 points, while pulling down four boards.

The Lions opened the second half playing stout defense while holding North Georgia scoreless for the first four minutes of the half before Carnes buried a jumper from the elbow.

North Alabama continued their hot shooting from beyond the arc in the second half hitting four treys, while North Georgia missed all five of their attempts. 

Jaymee Carnes nearly recorded a triple-double for North Georgia finishing the game with a team-high 24 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks, however she was held scoreless over the final eight minutes of the game as the Lions pulled away.

Giovanni Sims continued her strong play in the second game of her collegiate career pouring in nine points and grabbing seven boards.

The Lions were led by Dana Jackson, who scored a team-high 12 points and pulled down six boards. North Alabama had a balanced attack with four of their five starters scoring in double figures.

In the opening game on day 2 of the X-Trem Tip-Off Classic Trevecca Narazene knocked off the Peach Belt's Georgia College 61-58.

The Lady Saints return to the hardwood next Friday evening as they host Brenau in the Thanksgiving Classic at Memorial Hall at 6:00 PM.
