DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia men's and women's basketball teams are set to host their first conference games of the calendar year on Thursday evening when UNC Pembroke comes to town for a Peach Belt Conference showdown in Memorial Hall.
The Peach Belt Conference doubleheader is slated to tip off at 5:30 p.m. with the women's game followed by the men's game at 7:30 p.m.
What to Expect in the Women's Game | 5:30 PM
The Braves ended a four game losing streak last time out when they upended conference foe Montevallo 58-49. UNC Pembroke has struggled early in the year, winning back-to-back games only once so far. The all-time series is tied 5-5, but the Braves have dominated of late, winning two straight contests and four of the last six from the Lady Saints. UNC Pembroke hasn't finished above .500 in conference play since the 2006-07 season when they went 10-6 in PBC play and finished second in the North Division.
The Lady Saints are coming off their first conference road win after taking down Augusta State 57-45 on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Saints are looking for their first 3-1 start in conference play since the 2005-06 season, (their first year in the PBC) when they started 17-0 and captured the regular season championship. In the 10 matchups between the two teams, six of those have been decided by single digits.
What to Expect in the Men's Game | 7:30 PM
North Georgia has seen plenty of success against the Braves in recent history, holding an 8-2 mark in the all-time series. Since dropping both contests to UNC Pembroke in 2007, the Saints have reeled off six straight wins against the black and gold, with three of those coming by just two points.
Both clubs are looking to bounce back from their first conference losses of the year, as the Saints suffered a miserable offensive second half in a 19-point loss at Augusta State. The Braves found themselves in a shootout with Montevallo but came out on the short end of a 74-69 decision.
UNC Pembroke has won four of their last five games but will have to break a five-year drought against the Saints to get back on track and continue a quest towards just their second season over the .500 mark in Peach Belt Conference action since entering the league in 1992.
