MONTEVALLO, AL – The North Georgia women’s Soccer team extended their winning streak to four games, and unbeaten streak to five Monday evening, defeating the University of Montevallo 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference action.
North Georgia improves to 8-3-2 overall with the victory and 4-2-1 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Falcons fall to 5-7-2 overall, and 2-4-1 in the league.
The Lady Saints scored twice in the first 26 minutes and never looked back as they went on to win 3-1, moving up to fourth place in the Peach Belt Conference, their highest position since league play started the middle of September.
North Georgia broke the scoreless tie early in the first half as Kelsey Martin broke through for a one-on-one with the keeper just three minutes into the game for her sixth goal of the season. Natalie Douglass was credited with the assist on the play, her second of the year.
The Lady Saints struck again just 22 minutes later as Laura Lane shot in a cross to give North Georgia a 2-0 advantage. Martin and Danielle Brannan recorded the assist on the play.
After intermission, Lady Saints added to their lead in the opening minutes of the second half as Martin struck again, this time heading in a ball off a corner kick for the second straight game, giving North Georgia a 3-0 lead.
The falcons began to push the tempo and forced the Lady Saints on their heals and it paid off in the 73rd minute as Jade fed Natalie Martineau a ball into the box which Martineau slide across the face of the goal for an easy tap-in by freshman Paige Scott.
Kirsten Ross picked up the victory for the Lady Saints in goal, allowing one goal while recording three saves in all 90 minutes of action.
North Georgia returns to action on Wednesday evening, facing likely their toughest match of the season on the road against 3rd-ranked Columbus State University. Kickoff with the Cougars is set for 6:00 p.m.
