North Georgia Prevails 3-0 in PBC Battle of the Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE, FL – The North Georgia women's soccer team were in much need of a win on Saturday evening, and the Lady Saints did just that as they traveled to the Sunshine State and defeated Flagler College 3-0 in Peach Belt Conference action.

North Georgia puts an end to their season-long two-game skid, improving to 13-3 overall on the year and 7-2 in Peach Belt Conference action. Flagler remains winless in their last three contests, falling to 5-8-2 on the season and 2-5-1 in the league play.

The visiting Lady Saints finally got on the board in the 39th minute, going to their bread and butter as Casey Smith lined up for a corner kick and found Natalie Douglass who headed home her fourth goal of the season to put North Georgia up by a score heading into intermission.

In the second half, Flagler was whistled for foul in the 53rd minute, setting up a free kick for Smith who sent a serve toward goal and Kelly Martin maneuvered in the box to connect with a header on the other end and send home her second goal of the year, extending the North Georgia advantage to 2-0.

Chris Adams' crew added another goal in the final minute as Brittany Schmidt sent a cross to the center of the box with just 40 seconds remaining, finding Samantha Abrahart who headed home the game's final goal, and her team-leading 11th score of the year to give North Georgia a 3-0 road victory.

For Smith, the senior picked up her 14th and 15th helpers of the season in the game as the Stockbridge, Ga., native separates herself from the field as the nation's current leader in assists. She has now recorded multiple assists in five games this season, including a pair of games with three assists.

North Georgia held an 18-13 advantage in shot, while sending 10 of those on goal to just four for Flagler. The visiting Lady Saints had five corners to just one for the opponent, while both squads were called for a single offsides.

Kirsten Ross went the distance in goal for North Georgia, picking up her third shutout of the season and improving to 7-1 on the year as the junior recorded four saves.

The Lady Saints will have three days off before returning home to battle Brevard College on Wednesday evening in non-conference action. The contest will serve as Senior Night as North Georgia will honor Jessica English, Casey Smith, Kelly Martin, Lauren Schenk, and Brittany Bauschka playing in their final home regular season games for the Lady Saints. Kickoff against the Hurricanes is set for 3:30 p.m. at the Soccer Complex.
