Lady Saints Set for Opening Round of PBC Tournament

DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia women's soccer team will look to put history behind them on Tuesday evening as the Lady Saints search for their first-ever Peach Belt Conference Tournament victory, hosting Georgia College for a marquee in-state opening round matchup.

The 4th-seeded Lady Saints will play host to 5th-seeded Georgia College in the opening round of the conference tournament, welcoming the Bobcats to town for the second time this season on Tuesday evening with a primetime 6:00 p.m. kickoff.

The roles were reversed last season as the Bobcats were the 4th seed and hosted the 5th seeded Lady Saints in Milledgeville, Ga., as Georgia College scored a goal in each half to come away with a 2-1 victory.

North Georgia has played in five straight PBC Tournaments since entering the league in 2005 and have yet to come away with a victory, falling in the opening round each of the least five seasons. Lady Saints have been the higher seed only once, hosting Armstrong Atlantic in 2008 and falling 2-0 as Kristen Burton, the PBC's all-time leading goal scorer, tallied both goals in the contest.

Earlier this season, Georgia College and North Georgia battled at the NGCSU Soccer Complex and Natalie Douglass broke the scoreless tie in the 84th minute to give the Lady Saints a 1-0 victory. The Bobcats lead the all-time series 4-2-2, outscoring North Georgia 16-5 in those eight contests.

The most anticipated women's soccer season in North Georgia history has made the push to the playoffs as the 13-4 Lady Saints will fight for a birth in the NCAA Tournament. Currently sitting at 6th in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region Poll, North Georgia will need an impressive showing for an at-large bid to the National Tournament.

The top eight teams in the conference standings advance to postseason play with the four winning teams from Tuesday's contests advancing to the semifinals and finals Friday, Nov. 5 and Sunday, Nov. 7, at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans, Ga., as part of the PBC Fall Festival. The winner of the 2010 PBC Women's Soccer Tournament receives the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The North Georgia Sports Communications department will keep you covered for every postseason game in 2010, including live video and live in-game statistics for Tuesday's game against Georgia College. Rusty Brown will kick things off with the pregame show on the Saints Broadcast Network at approximately 5:40 p.m. Eastern Standard Time from the Soccer Complex on the campus of North Georgia.
