Casey Smith Named Daktronics First-Team All-Region

DAHLONEGA, GA – The awards keep piling up for senior defender Casey Smith who was named Daktronics First-Team All-Southeast Region announced last week by the region coordinator.

After earning her third straight Peach Belt All-Conference award three weeks ago, Smith has been named Daktronics First-Team All-Region as a defender for the third time in the last four years.

The Stockbridge Ga., native produced a banner season in 2010, setting the PBC's all-time mark for assists in a career with 44, and recording a nation-best 18 assists on the season, the second-most in a single season in Peach Belt history.

Smith will leave North Georgia has the most decorated player in school history, earning Peach Belt All-Conference honors three different times, All-Region honors in three consecutive years, and she will now go on the ballot to become an All-American in back-to-back seasons.

She also earned her share of Peach Belt Conference weekly awards during her storied career, snagging Defensive Players of the Week honors twice in 2010, and eight total weekly awards over the last four years.

The senior led her team to the most successful season in program history this fall, as the Lady Saints cracked the national top-25 for the first time in school history. North Georgia then made their way to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game, falling one victory shy of a bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Daktronics NCAA Division II All-Southeast Region Teams are voted on by the sports information directors of the Southeast Region. The region is comprised of the Conference Carolinas, the Peach Belt Conference, and the South Atlantic Conference. Members of the first team are now eligible for Daktronics NCAA Division II All-America honors.
