HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, KY – For the second straight year, senior defender Casey Smith has been named to the Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America Team announced on Wednesday afternoon as the National Semifinals are set to take place this weekend.
After earning her third straight Peach Belt All-Conference award nearly a month ago, Smith was been named Daktronics First-Team All-Region and has now earned Daktronics Third-Team All-American honors for the second straight year. She remains the only player in North Georgia women's soccer history to earn All-American honors.
Smith is one of just two players in the Peach Belt Conference to earn All-American honors in 2010 as Columbus State's Stephanie Lowery was named to the First-Team as a midfielder. West Florida's Shakira Duncan was named the Ron Lenz National Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after scoring 31 goals and adding 74 points to lead the country in both categories.
Smith produced a banner season in 2010, setting the PBC's all-time mark for assists in a career with 44, and recording a nation-best 18 assists on the season, the second-most in a single season in Peach Belt history.
The Stockbridge Ga., native will leave North Georgia has the most decorated player in school history, earning Peach Belt All-Conference honors three different times, All-Region honors in three consecutive years, and All-American in back-to-back seasons.
She also earned her share of Peach Belt Conference weekly awards during her storied career, snagging Defensive Players of the Week honors twice in 2010, and eight total weekly awards over the last four years.
The senior led her team to the most successful season in program history this fall, as the Lady Saints cracked the national top-25 for the first time in school history. North Georgia then made their way to the Peach Belt Conference Tournament championship game, falling one victory shy of a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences selected the three Daktronics All-America teams. The process begins at the regional level with all first-team all-region picks advancing to the national ballot. This is the fifth year Daktronics has sponsored the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America and all-region teams. A total of 39 student-athletes representing 24 different institutions filled out the three teams.
