AUGUSTA, GA – Columbus State University continued to have North Georgia's number on Friday evening in the semifinals of the PBC Tournament, using a pair of first-half goals on their way to a 3-0 victory at Blanchard Woods Park.
The victory for the Cougars propels them to the PBC Tournament championship game, while for the second straight year, North Georgia exits the tournament on a loss to their in-state rival.
North Georgia (15-2-1) drops just their second game of the year with both defeats coming at the hands of the Cougars. Columbus State (15-3-2) continues to surge down the stretch and extends their winning streak to nine games heading to Sunday's championship game. CSU is looking to win their fifth tournament title in the last six years.
The Cougars got started early when Stephanie Lowery scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 7th minute on a pass from Jackie Ellis to give Columbus State a 1-0 lead.
They were right back at it again in the 10th minute when Ellis was on the receiving end this time, taking a corner kick from Kelsey Pelletier and finishing to double the lead and make it 2-0.
Columbus State's Ashley Miller added another goal in the second half to create the margin of victory when she found a deflection and finished over North Georgia keeper Kirsten Ross to give the Cougars a 3-0 victory.
North Georgia had a pair of chances early in the first half to get on the board, but Columbus State keeper Mary Mancin made a great save on a laser shot from Abby Trevino, and Emily Dover saw a scoring opportunity slide just wide of the mark 10 minutes later.
The Lady Saints will now await word on an at-large bid to their first-ever NCAA Tournament. The NCAA selection show will take place live on Monday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m. on NCAA.com.
