DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia women's tennis team picked up a non-conference win over Carson-Newman on Wednesday afternoon, 6-3 on Senior Day.
No. 1 doubles got the Saints off on the right track, as Natalia Escobar and senior Juliana Moscoso-Chiang got an 8-0 shutout-match victory over the Eagles No. 1 doubles of Jennifer Ott and Erin Green.
Escobar and Moscoso-Chiang kept their winning going as they both won their singles matches, to give North Georgia a 4-1 lead.
Escobar defeated Ott 6-2 and 6-0 in No. 1 singles, while Moscoso-Chiang defeated Green 6-3 and 6-0.
Also picking up wins for the Saints was Jordan Poole at No. 4 and Nela Handac at No. 5 singles.
Poole defeated Stand 6-1 and 6-3 and Handac defeated Wilson 6-1 and 6-0.
Audrey Marlette came up just short at No. 3 singles, dropping a third-set heartbreaker to Brown, 10-6 in the tiebreaker. Marlette dropped the first set then bounced back to take the second set and force a third-set tiebreaker.
The win helped the Saints snap a five-game losing streak, and will now look forward to their final three games of the 2012 season.
North Georgia will travel to UNC Pembroke on Saturday. First serve is set for 1:00 PM.
