DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia Department of Athletics held its 6th annual senior banquet on Tuesday evening in Memorial Hall, recognizing 36 seniors who are completing their collegiate careers during the 2011-12 season.
A pair of stellar students received awards for their work in the classroom, as women soccer's Danielle Brannan was named the Female Scholar Athlete of the Year with a 3.71 cumulative grade point average, while baseball's Jordan Erisman was named the Male Scholar Athlete of the Year with a 3.76 cumulative grade point average.
The Female Athlete of the Year was awarded to Jessica Coan, who has put together one of the most prolific two-year careers in the history of the North Georgia softball program. Leading the Saints to a third straight World Series appearance in 2011, Coan was named the Division II National Pitcher of the Year. She has 50 wins over the last two years with 636 strikeouts in only 336 innings. A PBC Pitcher of the Year winner in 2011 and First-Team All-Conference selection in 2012, Coan has made a lasting impression on North Georgia, the Peach Belt Conference, and NCAA Division II softball across the country.
The Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to Rade Tanaskovic who will go down as one of the best men's soccer players in program history. As the vocal leader for the Saints, the Serbia, native was named to the PBC All-Conference Team three out of the four years he played, while earning All-Region honors his sophomore season. One of the most consistent and respected goalkeepers in the conference, Rade has been arguably the best between the posts in his four-year career at North Georgia.
In a special recognition, Facilities Coordinator Vaughn Grizzle was recognized for his 27 years of service to the university and the department of athletics. Grizzle has overseen the construction of the baseball and softball facilities and has been a mainstay at North Georgia since the mid 80's.
The North Georgia Department of Athletics would like to thank the 36 seniors for their dedication to the university and for representing North Georgia every time they put on a Saints uniform.
