Women’s Cross Country Closes Season with Strong 13th-Place Showing at Region Championship
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The North Georgia College & State University women's cross country team wrapped up their 2012 campaign Saturday morning at the 2012 NCAA Division II Southeast Region Championships hosted by Wingate University at McAlpine Creek Park. The Saints had a very strong showing, coming home 13th out of 27 competing teams in the 6,000 meter race.
Peach Belt Conference schools swept the top three team positions and also took six of the top-10 led by Columbus State University with 87 points. The Cougars took home the team crown by 12 points over second-place Clayton State University and 18 points over third-place the University of North Carolina Pembroke.
The University of Montevallo, which finished sixth as a team, had the overall individual winner as senior Kaley Glover finished in a time of 22:40.4. Her time was 14 seconds quicker than her nearest competitor.
The Saints were led by junior Emily Beusse who came home 31st overall in a time of 23:51.0.
Behind Beusse, five runners for North Georgia improved their 6K race times. Emily Roemer came home second on the team with a time of 25:03.0, improving by nearly 11 seconds from when the Saints last raced two weeks ago.
Meagan Anstett finished just two seconds behind Roemer in a time of 25:04.6 as she knocked off 25 seconds from her time in the PBC Cross Country Championships two weeks ago.
Sallie Davis knocked off five seconds from her time as she was the fourth runner across the line for North Georgia in a time of 25:30.2 and Nicole Shine shaved 16 seconds off her time in the 6K, coming home in 26:27.9.
