Leslee Smith Named Moe's Athlete of the Week
DAHLONEGA, GA – Senior softball standout
Leslee Smith has been named the Moe’s Southwest Grill North
Georgia Athlete of the Week after leading the Saints to a perfect
7-0 record over the weekend at the UAH Charger Chillout the sports
information announced on Tuesday afternoon.
As the #2 team in the country, North Georgia is off to their best
start in school history at 11-0, including victories over a top 20
team, and a top five team last weekend. In seven games last week,
Smith went .364 at the plate with a home run, 11 runs batted in,
and five runs scored.
Smith had a season-high five runs batted in against Arkansas Tech
in the Saints’ closest game of the season, recording a double
and triple, going 2-2 at the plate with a walk and run scored in a
9-8 victory. Against 5th-ranked Indianapolis, the senior added two
more hits and drove in three more runs, including a triple and a
home run.
The Lexington, Ga., native had a slugging percentage of .727 over
the weekend and is currently leading the team with 13 runs batted
in on the season with four doubles and 19 total bases.
Smith and the Saints will finally play their home opener of the
2010 season on Sunday, February 28, hosting Queens University for a
doubleheader set to start at 1:00 p.m. The Royals return to
Dahlonega after making in appearance in last year’s Dahlonega
Regional where North Georgia defeated Queens 2-0 in the opening
round.
