DAHLONEGA, GA – Laura Voyles has been named the
Moe’s Southwest Grill North Georgia Athlete of the Week after
leading the Saints to their second straight Peach Belt Conference
tournament championship as the senior was named co-Most Valuable
Player for the weekend.
The second baseman hit .417 for the tournament with four home
runs, nine runs batted in, six runs scored, and an on base
percentage of .533 from the leadoff spot.
After a single hit in the opener against Lander, the senior
exploded against Armstrong Atlantic with a three-run home run to
put the Pirates away in the second round in a five inning 8-0
victory.
She then blasted a two-run bomb in the third round against Francis
Marion as the Saints breezed into the championship round on Sunday
afternoon and faced the Patriots once again.
On Championship Sunday, Voyles was hit by a pitch to lead off the
game, but in the second inning, she came to the dish two runners on
and connected with her third long ball of the weekend, a three-run
shot to put the Saints on top 4-0.
Voyles was at it again in the sixth inning, giving North Georgia
an insurance run with a solo homer to right field to cap the
weekend with a 1.417 slugging percentage and send the Saints to
celebration.
The Powder Spring, Georgia, named Second-Team All-Conference the
night before the tournament, will enter her third straight NCAA
Tournament hitting .331 with 11 home runs, 33 runs batted in, 90
total bases, and an on base percentage of .461 from the leadoff
spot.
