DAHLONEGA, GA – Sophomore Tyler Mattix has
been named the Moe’s Southwest Grill North Georgia Athlete of
the Week after leading the Saints to a fourth place finish over the
weekend at the PBC Championships announced this afternoon by the
Sports Information Office.
The sophomore led the Saints at the 19th running of the Peach Belt
Conference Championships presented by GEICO at Luther Britt Park,
posting a time of 27:10.74, the best time of his two-year
collegiate career.
The Snellville, Ga., native crossed the finish line in eighth place
overall, earning him Peach Belt Second-Team All-Conference honors,
the first men’s cross country athlete to earn an
all-conference award at North Georgia since 2006.
Mattix has led the Saints in every race this season, guiding the
squad to the fourth best team in the league, the programs second
highest finish since entering the Peach Belt Conference.
Mattix and the Saints will have a week off before returning to
action on November 7, 2009, traveling to Wingate, North Carolina,
for the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. Last season at the
10,000-meter event, Mattix finished 62nd overall with a time of
36:18.
