It's very important to understand the NCAA's rules and regulations regarding recruitment of a prospective student-athlete (PSA). Below you will find short definitions to help you know the rules. If you have any questions, please contact the Compliance Office at (706) 867-3275.
Prospective Student-Athlete (PSA)
A student who has started classes for the ninth grade or
a student, regardless of grade, who has received financial
assistance or other benefits not generally available to prospective
students.
Recruited Prospective Student-Athlete
A student who has been approached by a coach or
representative of athletics interest about enrolling and
participating in athletics. Actions that create a recruit are:
Contact
Any face-to-face encounter between a PSA or his/her
parent(s) or guardian(s) and coach or representative of athletics
interest in excess of a greeting.
Evaluation
Any off-campus activity designed to assess the academic
qualifications or ability of a PSA.
Official Visit
Any visit to campus financed in whole or in part by the
university. Official visits shall not exceed 48 hours.
Official visits are prohibited prior to the opening day of classes
of teh PSA's senior year. A PSA is limited to one per
university. Before the university can host an official visit,
a PSA must:
Unofficial Visit
Any visit to campus made at the PSA's own expense.
The university may provide a maximum of three (3) complimentary
admissions to a campus athletics event and may provide one meal in
the institution's on-campus dining facility. A PSA may make
unofficial visits prior to his/her senior year in high school.
National Letter of Intent
Official document administered by the Collegiate
Commissioner's Association to establish a PSA's commitment to
attend a particular university.
