Milledge Austin is in his first year with the University of North Georgia as the Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Communication.
Austin most recently served as the Director of Operations and Media Relations at Montana State University Billings where he oversaw the media aspects for the athletic department’s 17 varsity teams with emphasis on volleyball, cross country, men’s basketball, softball, track & field and golf. He was the primary media contact for coverage of the Yellowjackets’ men’s basketball and softball teams which both won conference titles and advanced to the NCAA Division II regionals.
During his time with MSUB, he was responsible for writing press releases, updating the athletics website, keeping in-game statistics at certain home events and ensuring that webcasts of home events were live and streaming. He also served as the primary media contact for the 2012 MSUB Desert Stinger Softball Tournament Partnered with Rip-It, a 28-team NCAA Division II softball tournament hosted by MSUB in Las Vegas, Nev.
Prior to joining the MSUB staff, Austin served as the Assistant Sports Information Director at fellow Peach Belt Conference member the University of South Carolina Aiken for two years covering the volleyball and softball programs while also assisting with the Pacers’ other eight varsity sports including multiple conference champions and NCAA tournament participants. He helped maintain the Pacers’ social media network and served as the director/producer for home webcasts while helping with game-day and day-to-day operations.
Austin also helped commence USC Aiken’s bi-weekly You Tube show, Inside Pacer Athletics, which earned the NCAA Division II Game Environment Award of Excellence for a video of a mascot summit prior to two rivalry doubleheaders between USC Aiken and rival Augusta State.
While at USCA, he also earned four awards from the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for his work on media guides including two "Best in the Nation" plaudits for the 2010 Men’s and Women’s Soccer Media Guide as well as the 2009-10 Men’s Golf Media Guide. Both also earned "Best Cover" honors.
A native of Aiken, S.C., Austin earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communications (2009) from USCA. He worked as the layout editor and editor-in-chief for the university’s student-run literary and art magazine, Broken Ink, while also joining the Sports Information Department during basketball and baseball seasons as the producer/director of home webcasts.
He lives in Dahlonega and is a member of CoSIDA.
