Flanigan, Brisson, and Curtis Named All-Region

Flanigan and Brisson will vie for All-American honors

SAVANNAH, GA - North Georgia College & State University placed three players on the Rawlings/ABCA All-Southeast Region team announced Sunday evening. Rob Flanigan and Craig Brisson received First-Team honors, while senior Chris Curtis was named Second Team.

After being named First-Team, Flanigan and Brisson will look to become the program's first All-Americans since entering the NCAA, and just the schools third since moving into the the Peach Belt Conference. The Division II All-America teams will be announced at next week's Division II Baseball Championship in Sauget, IL.

In his first year in the Peach Belt Conference, junior Rob Flanigan quickly became known as one of the best hitters in the nation, grabbing Peach Belt All-Conference honors and now being name to the Rawlings/ABCA All-Southeast Region Team after hitting .403 with 20 home runs and 74 runs batted in. He finished just two points off the school record in batting average, but stands alone at the top of North Georgia's all-time single season home run record with 20, eclipsing the previous record of 19 with a pair of solo shots off Columbus State to launch the Saints into the Championship game of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. Flanigan had a .735 slugging percentage and scored 73 runs while flashing the leather at first base with a .987 fielding percentage. Flanigan will enter the North Georgia single-season record books in a slew of different categories apart from the home run and batting average mark. He finished with the highest slugging percentage and on-base percentage in school history, second in walks, third in runs batted in, and third in total bases.

Craig Brisson followed his PBC Freshman of the year honors in 2007 with another appearance on the Peach Belt All-Conference team and now his first showing on the All-Region squad. He posted a .356 batting average with eight home runs and 45 runs batted in. Brisson started all 62 games for the Saints in 2008 and had an on-base percentage of .437 from the lead-off spot. He led the club with 98 hits, third most in school history, and scored 74 runs on the season. He will also enter the record books in doubles with 22 on the season, just two shy of the all-time North Georgia record.

Senior Chris Curtis was named to his second-straight PBC All-Conference team in 2008, and now makes his second-straight appearance on the South Atlantic Region Second-Team. Curtis finished the regular season with a record of 9-3 and an earned run average of 2.77. Curtis recorded 50 strikeouts in 117 innings of work and opponents hit just .234 against him. In his final appearance in a North Georgia uniform, Curtis pitched the game of his life in the opening game of the South Atlantic Regional Tournament, tossing a complete game and allowing just four hits and no earned runs while striking out nine.
