Score
DAHLONEGA, GA – North Georgia College & State
University used a pair of grand slams and 13 unanswered runs to
defeat Armstrong Atlantic State University 13-1 Saturday evening
under the lights at Bob Stein Stadium in Peach Belt Conference
action.
The Saints improve to 21-20 overall and 12-10 in the Peach Belt
Conference with the victory, while Armstrong Atlantic falls to
27-15 overall and 6-10 in the league
The Pirates scored the game’s first run in the second inning
with a two-out rally to make it 1-0. Michael Price and Josh Wilson
notched back-to-back singles and Price raced home later in the
frame on a wild pitch to give AASU the one-run lead.
The Saints answered right back in the fourth inning with a two-out
bloop single off the bat of Adam Baker. Juan Dorado made a diving
attempt on the play, but came up short as Jordan Erisman came home
from second base to tie the game at 1-1.
North Georgia came back two innings later in the sixth frame and
Baker came to plate again with runners on, this time with the bases
jammed as Armstrong Atlantic elected to walk Andre Airich to load
the bases for the Saints’ designated hitter. Baker made the
Pirates pay, launching 3-2 fastball to left center, just clearing
the fence for a grand slam to give North Georgia a 5-1
advantage.
In seventh inning, the Saints brought two more runs to plate as
Craig Brisson doubled down the left field line to plate Daniel
Petitti, and Airich singled to right field later in the inning to
bring Brisson home and make it 7-1.
The Saints continued to add runs in the eighth as Nick Fryman was
hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to send the freshman down to
first base and force Baker to the plate and give North Georgia a
seven-run lead at 8-1. The Saints would then pour on the runs, as
Petitti stepped to the plate and blasted North Georgia’s
second grand slam of the day to clear the bases and make it 12-1.
Erisman would keep with the long ball theme two batters later,
sending a liner over the left center field fence to cap the scoring
and give the Saints a 13-1 victory.
Tyler Musslewhite (3-1) picked up the victory for the Saints,
going 7.0 strong innings, allowing just three hits and one run
while striking out five and walking six.
Thomas Gray (6-3) is tagged with the loss for Armstrong Atlantic,
allowing six runs on six hits while striking out five in 6.2
innings for work.
These same two teams will play an Easter Sunday doubleheader
special tomorrow afternoon with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
