Saints Shut Down at the Plate, Fall 2-1
JEFFERSON CITY, TN – The 6th-ranked North
Georgia baseball team managed just seven hits Wednesday afternoon
as Carson-Newman College came from behind to defeat the Saints 2-1
in non-conference action.
The Saints fall to 12-6 overall, while Carson-Newman improves to
12-7 on the season.
North Georgia plated their only run of the game in the third inning
as Craig Brisson reached on an error and later scored on a two-out
single by Jordan Erisman to make it 1-0.
The Eagles came back and rallied with two runs in the bottom of the
sixth inning as Tyler Kitts singled and Tyler Winn followed with a
two-run blast to left field to give Carson-Newman a 2-1
advantage.
The Carson-Newman relief pitchers held the Saints scoreless over
the final six innings, allowing just two hits while striking out
four. Michael Elli (1-3) picked up the win in relief, tossing 1.0
inning and allowing two hits while striking out two.
Matt Smith (0-1) suffered his first loss of the season for the
Saints, allowing five hits and two earned runs in 5.1 innings of
work.
North Georgia returns home for a Peach Belt Conference weekend
series against Columbus State University with a single game slated
for Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
