AMERICUS, GA – North Georgia College
& State University dropped game one 4-3 in walk-off fashion,
but rallied with 14 runs on as many hits to take the nightcap 14-9
over Georgia Southwestern Saturday evening in Peach Belt Conference
action.
With the doubleheader split, the Saints move to 25-22 overall and
14-12 in the Peach Belt Conference, while the Hurricanes move to
16-30 on the season and 7-16 on the league.
In the opener, errors plagued the Saints all game as five miscues,
including two in the ninth inning, led to the game-winning runs.
North Georgia led 3-1 heading to the ninth, but a pair of runs on
two hits and two errors led to the 4-3 walk-off victory.
Tyler Musslewhite tossed a gem in the no-decision, going 8.0
innings and allowing six hits and one earned run while striking out
nine and walking just one. Garrett Lussi (1-1) suffered the loss,
coming on in the ninth and lasting one-third of an inning, giving
up one hit and two runs while hitting a batter.
Jordan Erisman, Daniel Petitti, and Chad Sage each drove in a run
in the loss, while Craig Brisson tallied a trio of hits in five
attempts.
In game two, the Saints exploded for 14 runs on as many hits,
scoring a single run in the first, before plating runs in each of
the last five innings for the victory. North Georgia was down a run
heading to the seventh, but scored three in the seventh and eighth
innings, before adding one more in the ninth for the five-run
victory.
Andre Airich and Logan Sharrett drove in three runs apiece, while
the infield duo combined for five hits in eight plate appearances.
Zach Bennett drove in a pair of runs on two hits, and Lussi came
back in the nightcap to pick up the victory and improve to 2-1 on
the season.
These same two teams will play the rubber game of the three-game
series Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m. at
Hurricane Field. The series finale will also be the final regular
season conference game for the Saints who have eight non-conference
games remaining on the schedule.
