DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia
baseball team has moved up three spots to #10 in the latest 2009
Collegiate Baseball Magazine Division II Top 30 Poll released
Monday afternoon.
The Saints continue to make history as they move into the
nation’s top 10, the highest ranking for any program at North
Georgia since the institution entered the NCAA in the fall of
2005.
Coming off a three-game weekend sweep of the Pacers to open Peach
Belt Conference play, the Saints have now won six straight games on
the campus of USC Aiken, dating back to the sweep of the PBC
Tournament last season.
In their fourth season in the Peach Belt Conference, this marks
the first year that North Georgia has opened conference play with a
perfect 3-0 record. The Saints sit at 8-4 overall and will take on
the University of Montevallo (11-4) Wednesday afternoon before
hosting 22nd-ranked Lander University (10-3) for a three-game
series over the weekend.
North Georgia has already completed a pair of three-game sweeps
this season, something they managed to do just three times all of
last year. North Georgia is 5-4 against Lander since entering the
PBC, with both teams completing a three-game sweep on their home
field in 2006 and 2007.
With the Saints coming in at #10, this marks the 10th consecutive
poll North Georgia has appeared in dating back to April 21, 2008
where they came in at #24.
The Saints are the highest ranked PBC team in the Collegiate
Baseball Top 30 with GCSU moving up nine spots to come in at #18,
while Lander University stays put at #22, and Francis Marion sneaks
into the poll at #29 after receiving votes last week.
