Baseball players shine in summer ball

Oster and Musselwhite bring home honors

DAHLONEGA, GA – The North Georgia College & State University baseball players are making a name for themselves during summer ball, with Anders Oster and Tyler Musselwhite receiving honors this week in their respective leagues.

Anders Oster was named the Valley Baseball League Player of the Week after a .500 batting average, four runs scored, nine hits, one double, one home run, five RBIs and 13 total bases in 18 at bats.

The Saints shortstop had a slugging percentage of .722 and an on-base percentage of .526. Oster was tied for second in batting average, tied for first in hits, tied for fifth in total bases and fifth in on-base percentage.

He also had his usual display of defensive prowess at short, where he ranks among the best defenders in the league.  For the season, Oster has a .224 batting average, 14 runs scored, 26 hits, six doubles, one home run, 14 RBIs, 35 total bases on 114 at bats. Oster is fielding .958 for the season at shortstop.

Newly signed North Georgia pitcher Tyler Musselwhite has been named to the Coastal Plains League All-Star Team.

Musselwhite, a 2005 Gainesville High grad and former University of South Carolina pitcher, has a 3-2 record with 53 strikeouts for the Gastonia Grizzlies this year.

The Coastal Plains League All-Star game is scheduled for Tuesday, July 22, in Asheboro, N.C., and will feature collegiate players from 14 different teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
