#13 Saints Take Finale, Sweep Series from Pacers
AIKEN, SC – North Georgia jumped out to
an early lead and held on Sunday afternoon for a 7-5 victory over
USC Aiken to complete a three-game weekend sweep over the Pacers to
open Peach Belt Conference play.
The Saints improve to 8-4 overall and 3-0 in the PBC, while USC
Aiken falls to 4-7 overall and 0-3 in the league.
For the third straight game, USC Aiken put the first run on the
board, this time in the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead.
North Georgia came back with a run in the third, three in the
fourth, and two more in the fifth to take a 6-1 advantage. Jordan
Erisman provided the game-tying single in third, while Brad Hall
used a sacrifice fly to drive home a run, and Daniel Petitti
followed and doubled home another run in the fourth.
Adam Baker provided the fireworks in the fifth inning with a single
to left field to bring Anders Oster and Andre Airich home to make
it 6-1.
The Pacers added two runs in the seventh and single runs in the
eighth and ninth innings, but North Georgia added an insurance run
in the ninth on an RBI single from Petitti to give the Saints a 7-5
victory.
Michael Patton (2-1) picked up the victory, going 6.1 innings and
allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out four. Justin
Yackee came on in the ninth and continued his good work in relief,
recording his third save of the year.
The Saints return to action Wednesday afternoon, hosting the
University of Montevallo at Bob Stein Stadium with first pitch set
for 3:00 p.m.
